200th Post Celebration!

this was me, once upon a time, before I had a rabbit as a sidekick
Marty has been keeping a close eye on my blogging tally, and he now tells me that it is time to celebrate my 200th post!

The direction of our country has been much on our minds lately, with governmental policies and actions wandering away from the original intentions of our founding fathers. But our patriotic spirit is alive and renewed, particularly after our trip last month to historical areas in Virginia, where the foundation of this grand country all began. Memorial Day is fast approaching and July 4th is just around the bend. Our brave military men and women fight and sacrifice daily to protect us and our allies from harm. I am proud to be an American. And there are no apologies here for my pride.

God Bless America!
So I created a little giveaway prize that proudly displays the American flag! It shown as a little scissor-keeper in the above photo (scissors not included), but it can also be used as an ornament. I stitched it using a chart from a new Stars & Stripes booklet by the The Prairie Schooler, and finished it with a handmade twisted cord.

Here’s how to enter:

(1) Leave a comment on this post and tell me something that makes you proud of your country.
(2) For an additional entry, snag my celebration photo and put it on your blog with a link back to this post. Be sure to tell me in your posted comment if you have done this!
(3) If you enter and follow my blog, you will get a third entry!
(4) Entries outside the U.S. will be accepted. However, only entries from bloggers with active web sites will be eligible.

The last day to enter is Monday, May 11. Good luck everyone, and thank you for your friendship!

  13. Happy 200th!! To another fellow patriot who isn't afraid to speak her mind!!! (and has backed me up more than once)
I am proud to be an American and live in a country that still has freedom of speech even tho many would like to censor what we say, especially these days. I am proud and humbled everytime I see that flag unfurl and hear our national anthem played by a military band. Most of all I'm proud of my family members who have served in all branches of the military (and some have died). My favorite cousin was a Marine and we end every conversation or email with 'Semper Fi'...he says I'm an honorary Marine...
And if I win that beautiful piece it will travel with me (I always take cross stitch) and if I go to the next tea party, I'll wear it!!!

  14. Happy 200th post, Donna!

I think I've always been proud to be an American from the time I was a wee girl seeing my dad in his Navy uniform. My brother and I always saluted him, and he'd salute us back.

It gives me shivers when I think about all the sacrifices that have been made through the years, and now, on all of our behalves by the men and women who serve this nation.

God Bless the U.S. of A.

    Your handiwork is lovely. ((hugs))

  18. I'm so impressed with this giveaway...something tied to your heart...the pride you carry there for our country. What makes me proud is all of those that have gone before us who were WILLING TO TAKE RISKS...such HUGE RISKS. Yes, those of the pilgrims, our founding fathers and those who went west and expanded this big place where freedom was the most revered of all treasures. There was no backup plan, there was no guarantee, there was once just possibilities and that was good enough for them!
Sorry, didn't mean to write a book but I get started and it's hard to stop. I love history like you, and it's always amazed me the risks that these people were willing to take!
    XOXO

  20. Lovely ornment Donna. Like you, I love my country as I would my own mother. She has given of herself so many times to her contstiuents, How can one begin to count the ways? Many fallen heros than have come to her defense, as they too felt the appreciation of the freedom she offers. I will be talking about one of these heros on my blog this week and the honor bestowed him to my family this week ( my Uncle Lewis)
