Preoccupied with STUFF

only in my dreams do my closet look this neat!I do not want my blogging friends to worry about my lack of posts! I also haven’t been able to catch up on your latest posts. We had a couple of house showings - YEAH! So we had to spit-shine our abode, and I had to clean up some monumental messes I recently made in my sewing studio, LOL.

We have also been also been taking advantage of the rainy weather and temporary cooler temperatures to do some “clutter busting” chores. Good gracious, we have way too much STUFF. A mountain of STUFF remains, even though we had two successful yard sales this past spring. It seems to have grown behind closet doors, in dresser drawers, and in all the nooks and crannies. Have any of you ever experienced such a phenomenon? Surely not!

We’re stepping up our combat of accumulated STUFF because there is a possibility that we may be moving in October. I’m getting ruthless! We do not want to pack, haul, and store STUFF unless there is some distinct certainty that we will later use the STUFF. What remains also has to be able to fit in a home with about half the square footage. Ack!

Some of my blogging buddies have blessed me with awards in the past few days. I've updated my sidebar, but I am remiss about doing a post. Until I can thank you properly in a day or two, I am blowing you cyber kisses! You know who you are!

  1. In 2002, I downsized from 2800 sq to under 1000. This was two years after Mom passed away. I know what you're going through, and hope it all works out the way you want and need it to. That's quite a job you have.

Ironically, after ridding the house, garage, etc. storing some, giving away other stuff; two years later I moved back into a house! And, for the most part started over. Luckily, my brother and daughter opted to give me back some of the yard stuff. hahaha

Take care. We'll be here!! ((HUGS)) I'd help you if I was there, but I know these sort jobs can only be done by you and hubby.

  2. Thank you, dear! I know that my friends would lend me a hand, but it is really something that we have to weed through ourselves. Decisions, decisions! LOL.

I've been putting most of it off for the past year, and now time is probably running out. We will be going to a rental while we build, so I KNOW we'll be packed in tight for a period of time. It has to be done!

  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one behind in reading and posting! At least you've been doing something constructive! I've been getting used to this working thing...ugh.

I love de-cluttering. I always feel so much better after getting rid of STUFF. We all have too much and I'm applauding you for your efforts! WTG, girl!

  4. Hi Donna,

Completely understand how things go. Lots of time I struggle to keep up with everyone when it gets crazy busy around here and I always feel so bad. I'll keep my fingers cross about your house. I really wish I could get my hubby to get a villa type home. It just sounds good at this point in our lives. Try not to work too hard.

  6. Donna we will soon be in you shoes while we build our new house. I am getting ruthless around here and throwing things out left and right...because it's junk we will never use again...I want a fresh start...and as I write, my house sound hollow...and that's a good thing. On to better things, I hope. It's time.

So don't be going getting all sentimental about stuff like a old chair with a missing leg.. I calling the Junk Place and getting them in to take it all out. I'm going to travel light.

I love your template....sorry I haven't been around her lately. Time is not on my side. Take care.

  7. Debbie, it is feeling great, and I am kicking myself for not getting more done before this. I got a lot done today, but plenty remains, LOL.

Hang in there with that "working thing"! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! (Which just got put in a bag for sending out the door tomorrow!)

  8. It's hard work, Joan! I got a lot accomplished today and anxious to take another stab at it tomorrow. I wish your DH would come around and think about a villa home too. There will come a day that we can no longer physically keep up with this place. So we know that we have to resettle before we get ourselves into trouble.

  9. It's funny how things just multiply when you aren't looking...but out with the old makes room for the new...my problem is I find a sentimental attachment to most things...I'm currently working on that...so I wish you luck in that area (and in the sale of your home).

  10. Donna, keep your mitts off of Marty! Haha, he's assiged to haul off the sacks, and he is quite content here, thank you very much! Nice try, sister!

No WAY can I get it all done in a day, LOL! Goodness, it took 16 years to get in this state so it takes a while to undo it all!

  11. Ah, so you are in the same boat then, huh Joan? Doesn't it feel great to go through stuff and weed it all down?! I'm sentimental about a few things, but we have a lot of STUFF that just needs to find another home now! Keep up your efforts too, ok?

  12. Hey, Joni! The STUFF multiplies rapidly and it reminds me of the trouble with tribbles episode on Star Trek! Remember? Except the STUFF isn't nearly as cute, hahahaha!!!!! I'm getting past the sentimentality, but I know what you mean. Thanks for your good wishes!

  15. I know what you mean about STUFF! When we moved from a 1200 sf. house to a 2000sf house, it was so empty! I spent the next 8 years filling it up! Now, we want to down size and all I can think is what am I going to do with all this stuff!!

  16. Thanks, Kim! I will probably be still purging and pitching for the next couple of weeks, and then take a break when we go on our vacation! LOL.

  17. I appreciate it, Cindy! I know where your heart is right now.

We've been at this house for 16 years, so we've had quite a bit of time to accumulate.

  18. I know what you mean, Jeanette! We went from a smaller house to a big house, and we filled it up over time. Now we have to trim back to where we used to be! Oh-me-oh-my!
