A Look Back in Time

How about a little frivolity today to take a look back in time? I love this video, giving a streetcar perspective of San Francisco’s Market Street in 1905. I hope you enjoy it too! My goodness, how life has changed…

  1. Very interesting video..I noticed the male female ratio seems to be 10 men for every woman!

  2. It looks so busy that I would hate to cross the street. Those folks were brave. (I have a two major tragedies in my family lore involving street cars. Perhaps that's why.)

  3. I love it! What amazed me most I think is how busy with people, wagons and other vehicles crossing so closely right in front. You flinch expecting a collision. I love this sort of archive of a city in its early days. Boston is my favorite city and I love collecting picture books with old and new pictures of the city.

  4. Wonder how big the camera is that they are using? Seems like there were a lot of close calls!

  5. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Something to be remembered, when we are tempted to call up "the good old days"! ,-)

Guess what Donna? Me too! On another Z-pak and something else. And it took you 3 weeks to kick it, hu? OK, as long as I know the drill. LOL!

  8. Well, you know I can't watch! :(

You've been sick also? So many of us lately; I think it's everywhere. Today is the first I haven't coughed up my innards (is that two n's)? :)

Hope you're on the road to recovery, and stay well!! ((hugs))

  9. Cool video. I read the comment about the male female ratio. I suppose that would be because all the women were at home cooking, cleaning and all that jazz :)
Sometimes I think it would have been nice to live in a simpler time like this but then I like my modern day conveniences too

  10. Donna, I love this video. Here is another from 1906 that was taken the day before the earthquake...

It's a 60 minutes story and it shows some modern shots of Market Street too. I love watching the people, horses, cars, cable cars, all criss-crossing. Wonderful glimpses of history!

  11. I saw this on the history channel. It's fun looking back to before we were a gleam in papa's eye.

  12. weird. hard to imagine which 'time' would be better to live in. then or now. sometimes i think the old days were so much simpler - then i think, how in the world did they manage some things.
