Wish Us Luck...

I’ve gone and done it now. I entered a photo contest. Natural Habitat Adventures is the sponsor, and the photographs are supposed to be from their tour destinations. We have been on three of their adventure trips in the past two years and taken thousands of images. So we decided to roll the dice! What’s the saying? Nothing ventured, nothing gained?

The first prize is a free polar bear excursion on the Tundra Lodge (which is parked right in the middle of Churchill’s polar bear country). Second prize is a $500 B&H Photo gift certificate. Third prize is a couple of $50 World Wildlife Fund gift adoption cards. Winners will be announced on or around June 5. Needless to say, we're really gunning for prizes #1 and #2!

Jim submitted his entries last week, and I finally got mine uploaded earlier today. It was excruciating to decide what to submit. The limit was seven entries per person. GAH! The contest rules state: "The jury will favor pictures that imbue nature and adventure and incorporate destination, activity and human participation in one image. Images that portray excitement are preferred as well."  Hmm, that prose didn’t really help much in my selection. It’s the human participation part that makes me stumble. I patiently wait for folks to move out of my photo frames, not into. That’s how I roll.

What did I end up submitting, you ask? Well, you’ve already seen four of them – a brown bear ambling along a trail, Denali's rugged peaks, sled dog Reba (a funny one), and an eagle's swoop to catch a salmon. I also entered the three images below.

  9. Well I am totally excited about this!! Donna, you take the best photos I've ever seen. I say that the eagle or the polar bear are going to be #1 for sure. I can't believe they want people in the photos, that's a turn off. I tell you, I make anybody who comes near my computer look at your photos all the time. Too bad I'm not one of the judges. Not that I'm partial or anything, I'm not. You are a top-notch photographer, period. GOOD LUCK!!! Hugs, J
