We went to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey! We aren’t fans of the Hollywood crowd, values, and politics. So it is a rare occasion for us to plunk down our money and buy senior tickets for a movie. However, we ARE big fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and his delightful world of hobbits, elves, wizards, and other creatures.
We went a couple of weeks ago, before the Christmas school holiday schedule, and picked a matinee time. There were perhaps a dozen people in the whole theater. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie! It was a visual treat. The casting, special effects, costumes, and set designs were superb. There are parts that will have you on the edge of your seat, and others will make you belly laugh. If you are familiar with the book, some parts will make you scratch your head in wonderment. The story line doesn’t hold true to the book, with the director/writers embellishing far too much and often. It is also just one of three movies, requiring us to patiently wait for the other yearly installments. Oh, but it was such fun!
Now I want to read the book again! If you are a Tolkien fan too, please don't hesitate to go. You will have a lovely time.
I am a Lord of the Rings fan, though I've never read Tolkien. I find that if I'm going to enjoy the movie, it's best not to always read the book. So if I've read a book that I love, I don't see the movie and vice versa. Sounds like a good movie to go see! Wonder if I can talk John into it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I Guess if you gave money to see it then We can...Hahaaaa....boy, I Hate to support those boneheads!
ReplyDeleteHope you both are enjoying the weekend!

My son bugged us and bugged us for years to watch the Lord of the Ring movies and we tried but never could get into them. I read the first book a few months ago and, although I struggled to get through it I did manage to finish it and halfway enjoyed it. Now I probably can watch at least the first movie! Glad you enjoy them, anyway!
ReplyDeleteOh, I would love to see this movie! I'll check and see if it's still playing here. We watched Chronicles of Narnia this week and it's always a treat...so wintry, too!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I am a dedicated fan to the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, but it saddens me to say that I was disappointed in The Hobbit. It seemed to have less of a storyline and a barage of endless attacks to me. Hopefully the next one will be better!
I loooooooooooved the movie. Especially the bunny sled! Yes, the hollywood people can be a bunch of ding-dongs but, I like to think I support the hundreds of "non-famous" creative, kind people behind the scenes that love bringing joy to others through their work. ;)
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy new year!
Hi Donna-
ReplyDeleteI have just loaded your beautiful blog in place for my Grow Your Blog party - so you are all set! The date is January 19 -- so will see you there!
xo,
Vicki
I'm sure our oldest granddaughter was the first in line for this movie! She couldn't wait to see it. I would love to have been the one to take her but it's not cool to go with your grandmother - unless you go when no one else is there!

I can't tell you how long it has been since George and I have seen a movie --either on TV or in the theater.... One that I'd love to see is Les Miserables... I love the music from that one. BUT--we probably won't plunk out the money to even see it---for the same reason you don't like to pay to go to movies... Oh Well...
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it.
Happy New Year.
Hugs,
Betsy
One of the girls I work with went to see it and she also said that it was a good movie. Wade was talking about wanting to see it too
