Once again, it’s time for Vee’s monthly note card party!
As most of you know, it wasn’t the best of summers for us and we stayed home instead of traveling. As a result, my camera equipment didn’t get much of a workout. But I rallied a bit out of my doldrums when I devised a hummingbird perch right outside my office windows. To quote the Field of Dreams movie: “Build it and they will come.” Of course, the feeder located above the perch provided suitable incentive for their visits.
I think that all of these images would make lovely note cards, suitable for anyone who loves nature.
Below is an image collage that could serve as the box cover to the set.
Miz Vee’s note card parties are great fun. I hope you will have time to stop by A Haven for Vee and visit her other participants!

Donna this is a lovely set of themed notecards.I just love the green backgrounds, sets off the bird images so well.
ReplyDeleteOh my! These look like oil paintings! They are spectacular and such a fun bird to have as a regular visitor. Enjoy your week my friend! Print out some more note cards! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteExquisite! I have a question about the green background, but don't know enough to formulate the thought. How'd you do that?! Those sweet birds have so much detail and your photography shows it off so well. Love that box top for your note cards. I'd buy it.
ReplyDeleteThe green background is out-of-focus grass. Since each bird is a LOT closer to the camera lens than the glass, and I used a telephoto, the lens blurred out the background. The f-stops of these images vary from 7.1 to 11, which don’t produce an extreme depth of field. But I didn’t need or want a shallow depth of field setting because I was trying to get most of each bird in focus. The compression of the telephoto did most of the work for me to get the dreamy background. I positioned the perch so that I would have an all-grass background. I hope this answers your question!
Deletethese are awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, your pics are truly amazing, especially the first one! Very clear and beautiful:@)
ReplyDeleteWow, such close ups!
ReplyDeleteI bet these photos took a whole barrel of patience to get.
They will make pretty note cards, Donna.
These are so sweet and SO beautiful, Donna! I love them. I'd be attracted to this set in a store for sure.
ReplyDeleteDonna! They are all exquisite!!!
ReplyDeleteThe clarity is amazing - I especially love the first little fella - what type of bird is he/she?
Anyone who is lucky enough to receive one of your note cards also gets a little work of art!

Donna, I am so sorry that your summer was not the best...but you certainly made the best of a bad situation with these fabulous hummingbird shots! They are amazing...and I am not using that word as the cliche that it has become, but in its truest sense. What gorgeous creatures these little birds are, and yet we so seldom see them as vividly as you have allowed us to see them. Beautiful birds, beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots of a very hard to photograph bird! For me anyhow!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing shots of really beautiful birds, Donna. I love, love the green background (and read how you did it above). You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteThe photos you have chosen this month are spectacular! Congratulations for capturing such fabulous images!
ReplyDeleteWow! These are simply breathtakingly beautiful. So much so that I immediately clicked on your label in the sidebar to see what kind of camera you used! I may have to rethink getting an SLR!
ReplyDeleteSimply stunning, Donna!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful cards they would make!
Deanna

ReplyDeleteYour Hummer shots are just beyond amazing! SO very beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteYour sweet hummingbirds would make nice any- occasion note cards Donna. I really like the idea of making a box top too.
ReplyDeleteDonna! I just love your hummingbirds - they are enchanting! You are gifted with a camera - I fear I need PicMonkey to make my feeble efforts pop. Perhaps a better camera - I'm working with a rather low end model. So glad you popped over to my place at The Writer's Reverie.
ReplyDeleteJoy!
Kathy
Donna, I don't recall what camera you have but girlfriend those shots are outstanding. If you made those into real notecards I would most certainly have to have a set! :D Sorry, I've been MIA, but I've been reading your posts even though I've missed commenting on some. Yes, I'm still around... just busy doing some weaving and knitting, and I'm taking a couple of portrait painting classes... oh where does the time go?! :D
ReplyDeleteHugs and stay warm,
Beth P
I must say Donna that these are really awesome shots of those hard to catch, very quick little birds! I love how they are looking up making them much more interesting as we are able to see their throats so well - a special part of such a tiny colorful creature. The green background is perfect too.
ReplyDeleteTime to set up your in-home printing press my dear - you would certainly have a market for sets of these cards!
Hugs - Mary
P.S. Thanks for the nice comment.
We need some new adjectives for your stuff! Awesome, amazing, stunning! These are just beautiful.
