Photo of the Week - Smoky Mountain Layers

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina

My friend (and sister-in-law), Pris, came down for a visit last week. We had a grand time and celebrated a couple of spring days in the Smokies. And Pris enjoyed a private photo workshop from me!

The mountain ridge layers, seen along Clingmans Dome Road, clearly demonstrate the origin of the park’s name.

Here is a bonus image, transformed with a painterly effect using Topaz Labs Impression plug-in software. (Be sure to click each photo to see them bigger!)

  3. Oh Donna...what a glorious sight! The Smokey Mountains are one of my favorite places to visit. I have been to Clingman's Dome a few times and often it is so foggy up there, it's impossible to see much. You have captured those layers perfectly. How nice it was for you and your SIL to have this time together!

  6. They are aptly named for sure! I had to chuckle seeing the first photo enlarged when I could have counted every tree along the ridge and quite possibly all the fir points on each tree as well. That's how crystal clear the photo is! Not sure why some of my comment is underlined. Always something new going on!

  7. Oh I love those images of the mountain ridges disappearing into the distance! We tried specifically to get that sort of pictures when we visited the Smokies 3 years ago now. Hope you're doong well.

  9. I'm busy catching up again. I've been a bit behind in blog land for awhile. Your photos are gorgeous, as always. I'm glad your sister-in-law could spend time with you. I want to see the Smokies some day - it's on my bucket list.
