Alaska Trip - Mister Sea Otter

We got to see a variety of sea life when we cruised along Alaska’s Inside Passage in July. One of the cutest critters in that part of the world has to be the sea otter, with its “old man” whiskers and faces.

One day, we spotted a lone sea otter diving and swimming. He was located at quite a distance from the boat. He finally dove and stayed under for quite some time. He floated along below the surface, looking for a snack. We floated along above the surface, looking for his reappearance.

When he finally resurfaced again, he popped up next to the boat! I snapped his photo.

The otter was clearly startled to be so close and immediately threw up his little paws and dove into the water again. He disappeared after this photo! His image is a little bit blurry, but I love his surprised expression.

We’re sorry we scared you, Mister Sea Otter!

  3. They ae such sweet looking creatures. I remember seeing them with abalone shells in Morro Bay, CA. They hold them on their chest and hit them with rocks. Clever little buggers!

  10. Well, here's what I think. He knew the best photographer he was likely to run into this year was on that boat, so he decided to do a little posing while he had the chance. It made him nervous, but he wasn't going to miss his chance to become famous, no way!
