My Latest Photography News

I have been sitting on some happy news for a little while! It’s now time to let the proverbial cat out of the bag.

An image of mine won an online competition by Ilford, the makers of fine photographic papers. Entries are submitted from all over the world, and they are judged monthly.

Which photo won, you ask? It was this one of a puffin, taken two years ago in Alaska. The image is one of my personal favorites. Mister Jim loves it too. It is especially sweet that Ilford’s very discerning judges were also smitten. (Don't forget to click to see it bigger.)

I didn’t win any money or other kind of prize. However, I gladly accept recognition for my hard work! My image will remain highlighted on Ilford's corporate web site for the month of May. And I have also been profiled on Ilford's blog. Perhaps you will want to visit these links and find out a little bit more about your blogging friend, little ol’ me.

It’s been a long photographic journey to actually get to a point like this. And I deeply appreciate all of the encouragement that you routinely give me here. It means more than you will ever know!

  4. Congratulations, Donna! That is an exquisite photo and I don't mean the puffin. Why aren't you using that as your profile picture? Then we'd feel as if we really know you. You know, the way I reveal myself so willingly. =D

No, I'm joshing! That is one incredible photograph. I think you'll be off with National Geographic if you're not careful.

    1. You sure know how to arm wrestle me to the ground! I am extremely camera shy, truth be told. That is an older picture of me, but I am more content with it than I am my current mug. But it's now on my blog. Gosh, you're like a nagging little sister, LOL. Love you to pieces!

  5. Congratulations, my friend! I loved seeing your puffin photo again and I loved reading all about you. I agree - you should add your own picture to your profile. I loved 'seeing' you!

Now, a suggestion - I'd love to see how you display your photography throughout your home! If you ever want to do a little tour and tell us how you switch things out and share some of your secrets, we would love it. That's a goal of mine. Again, you are such an inspiration!

    1. Consider it done, sweet lady, on both counts. I have relented and put the (younger than now) photo on my profile. And yes, I plan to share on my blog about the beauty and simplicity of standard-sized metal frames for displaying and changing photo enlargements. It's been on my to-do list for a while, but it hasn't risen to the top of the heap yet.

  6. Well that's pretty darn amazing!! You deserve it 100%. That is a stunning image. You have inspired me to start learning post processing. I don't have much time now but I will retire in a few years.

  7. This is so great and that is a perfectly miraculous photo. You deserve the recognition, and then some. Bravo Miz Donna. Oh and thanks for your kind comments re: Aunt Linda. This has been a bitter pill to swallow. She has not shown one scintilla of self-pity. She's at peace and it's beautiful to see, but hard to know what is ahead of her. My mother is devastated. Thanks for your prayers.

  20. You truly deserve all the accolades coming in here (and from Ilford) for this beautiful photograph Donna - it's wonderful. I know only too well how hard it is to get such perfection when capturing birds. Thank goodness this puffin was obviously very vain - staying still and looking back at you with such disdain!!!!

Now I can also put a face with a name - great pic of you. Enjoyed reading the article, and perhaps, with all your kind tips and info, some of us who participate in your monthly challenges will see one of our pics there some day!

    Hugs and huge congratulations -
    Mary

  22. Hello Donna,

I enjoyed very much reading your interview and they indeed, pick up the winner this month with your magnificent puffin.
I did not win any monthly competition, but one of my photos was recommended by Ilford in March 2013.
I am a flickr member too (not regularly though), and I enjoy to participate for fun to some competitions.
