Photo of the Week - Vines Below the Cabin

Museum of Appalachia, Clinton Tennessee

This humble composition reminds me that there is much beauty that can be found in small details. Simple. Often overlooked. But present in the here and now, nonetheless.

I deeply appreciate all of you who have provided comfort and prayers during this season of our lives. Those dear friends who take the time to converse with me and/or leave sweet comments demonstrate true grace in action. God bless you!

Here is an update about Mr. Jim. His oncologist has been out of the office, so he saw another physician in the group yesterday. The cancer antigen blood test result has increased since the last visit. However, there are no further metastasized areas per the latest CAT scan. (Ah, a silver lining.) Mr. Jim had a paracentesis procedure this afternoon and is feeling better. A radiology team removed 4.2 liters of fluid (a little over 10 pounds) from his abdomen. More fluid will be drained in a couple of weeks. He will meet with his oncologist next Tuesday and discuss whether chemotherapy will resume, and if so, what regimen.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers. Thank you!

  11. We were just talking about silver linings in every situation. Awfully challenging to find them sometimes, yet they are there. Sorry that a procedure was needed, but relief is a blessing. Hope that Jim is still at work in the kitchen. Say, have you had the chance to use your new photography equipment now that autumn's colors must be on full tilt?

  13. Thank God for silver linings! Mr. Jim is blessed to have such a strong and beautiful woman to help him get through this.
I absolutely love this photo and would love it on canvas hanging in my home. I'm slowly becoming a minimalist and the photo epitomizes the concept!

  15. I love how you edited that photo, Donna, to bring out every tender but strong vein and the gorgeous green of the leaves against the rugged wood. I agree that the simplest subjects are the most eloquent. There is nothing much to say when a loved one is suffering and you are suffering right along with them, except that you are often in my thoughts and daily in my prayers.

  16. How pretty! Donna, I pray for you both very often and I will continue to do so. I know your life has changed a lot and that it is hard to wake up in the morning and want to get out of bed. That's how I feel often, too. But every day we can both see the beauty of our world and know that God made it for us and that He has us in His sights. No matter how tough now is, we will find rest later on. For now, let us appreciate the beauty when we find it. Love and hugs to you!
