Photo of the Week - Leaf Dance in the Water

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee

Once again, Wednesday has arrived. And once again, I am scrambling to get a photo posted for your visual pleasure. It seems like I am constantly in “catch up” mode this year. It is part of the bargain when one is frequently packing and unpacking, journeying to and fro.

I was visiting the beautiful Smokies last week, getting thoroughly soaked in the rain while attempting to photograph scenes of autumn beauty. The remnants of the big hurricane dumped a goodly measure of precipitation all over this part of the country. Much of it landed on my head and camera equipment! But I persevered and managed to get a few decent shots. The 2015 fall colors were absolutely stunning.

I spent the first part of the week on a photography workshop. There were some grumbly people among the participants, unfortunately. Why? Who knows? I didn’t give them permission to mess with my head. Life is too short to put up with game-playing nonsense. One lady and a couple of fellows were really nice. The workshop leader was nice too.

The second part of the week was spent at the very first Great Smoky Mountains Photography Summit. It was a rousing success. You can read about it on Bill Fortney’s blog, HERE, HERE, and HERE. Seasoned professional photographers from all over the country graciously shared their vast years of knowledge with us. And with several hundred attendees, it was a marvelous place to network with wonderful folks who shared common interests in landscape, nature, and wildlife photography. Yes, I made new friends! Will I go to it again next year? You betcha! And, I am so blessed to get to know Bill this year and have him as a dear friend.

  1. Oh you have that smooth water going! Very pleasing. Bill's photography is amazing as well and he has the smooth water going, too. Glad that you enjoyed your time in spite of the grumblers. Do they not know that they are not in control of the weather?

  3. So glad you are getting out and about and capturing Nature in all her colorful glory Donna - this is a beautiful shot. The wet conditions may not be the most comfortable at times but they do give outdoor photography such a different look.
We're heading to the mountains next week - hoping there's still some color, however I won't be a 'grumbler' no matter the weather, just want a couple of quiet days in the countryside/on the high areas of this lovely land. Will pack my wellies and a warm sweater and take what comes - thankfully we golden agers can still get out and about, and with a camera in hand it will be perfect, LOL!

As they say, "There's no bad weather just the wrong clothes".
Happy days my dear - you deserve them.
    Hugs - Mary

  6. You sure are keeping yourself busy, good for you. Too bad about the grumbly people. You would think they would want to be there to have a good time and learn something.

  7. Donna, that is a wonderful photo. I love it!

Some people have to try to control everything. I guess it makes them feel more secure, if they are in charge. Glad you didn't let it bother you and that you are making good friends while on these trips!

  11. I can almost hear the water flowing over those rocks - and I'm sure I saw the leaves moving along as they floated away! You captured it well, dear friend. I'm glad you've been learning new things and making new friends. I am always amazed and thrilled to see what you are doing. Your photos, as you know, inspire me - they always do!

  12. Beautiful shot Donna!
It never ceases to amaze me how people will seem to want to do something wonderful then, set about ruining for themselves and others...sad!
SO happy you're getting in the swing of things!
