Photo of the Week - Moon Rocks in Autumn

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee

In the Greenbriar area of the park, there’s an interesting group of rocks in the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River. Dubbed by locals as “moon rocks,” the boulders have been sculpted by the river over time. The polished dips and curves are beautiful to admire from a distance, but the surfaces are treacherously slippery when wet!

One photo workshop participant took a tumble while jumping around. Several others had near miss accidents. I started to get on top of the rocks to get a higher vantage point, but quickly abandoned the idea once I saw that there was zero traction. I am a brave woman, but I know my limitations! So this down-low shot of the area had to suffice.

  1. This is a beautiful shot Donna, even if it's 'down low'. I'm glad you didn't slip and fall! The colours in the water and rocks have a gorgeous backdrop of fall leaves. I hope your week is going well. Are you getting ready for Christmas? Blessings. Pam

  5. It's a beautiful shot to me. Your smooth water really does make them look treacherous. I am glad that you know your limitations. Gosh, that would have scared me.

  8. That is a magical looking place. I love rocks, and these are beautiful! Also loving the festive look of your blog! I haven't spruced mine up in so long. Very little energy for blogging, but I'm trying to push myself to put a bit more effort in. I miss keeping up with my old blogging friends. In case I don't get back here before, I want to wish you a Blessed and Beautiful Christmas!
