A New Camera!

With a post title like that, you’re next thought is probably along the lines of “good grief, what on earth has she done now?” I broke down and got myself another camera. And, it’s not a Nikon.

Cue the opening notes to Beethovan’s Symphony No. 5: dum, dum, dum, DUM!

Ha-ha, the camera came with a smartphone!

I purchased an iPhone last week, flinging myself further into the modern age. We became permanent Apple converts about three years ago and never looked back. So it was only a matter of time before I broke down and added an iPhone to the gadget mix. The integration between our various devices (iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone) and cloud sharing capabilities are simply too good to pass up. And the device will be helpful during our traveling adventures.

You can be rest assured that I won’t be texting and chewing gum at the same time. I know my limits! But I will be dipping my toes in iphoneography. My first photo is the one you see above. It was easy-peasy. And I used the terrific, free Snapseed app that was developed by Nik Software (now owned by Google).

Since I've already used an iPad for a few years, it hasn’t been difficult for me to get the hang of basic iPhone setups and operation. And there is a video course on lynda.com that’s been very helpful in getting me fully up to speed. Of course, I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, and app suggestions from my beloved blog friends who are iPhone veterans!

  1. Yay! I have an iPhone and a MacBook and love them both. I don't use my phone for a lot of things as it's mostly for emergencies, but I do take a lot of pictures with it when I don't have my camera with me. I haven't used the iCloud yet. I'm just a basic user of them both. I really should learn more about them. You will enjoy it Donna! And you probably already know more than I do about it. :)

You have to have a more steady hand taking pics with it than our good cameras but it's fun!! Half my apps are camera related apps..;-)

  7. Enjoy - I've had an iPhone for several years and do find it useful for many things.........however don't know half the stuff it can do yet! I didn't really start texting much until last year, now I like it for keeping up with family and friends who seem to be too busy to have a real conversation, sigh! Of course maybe they just don't want to actually talk to me!!! I do have mine set up in my car (Bluetooth), and although I rarely talk in the car unless it's about important and necessary quick things, never needless chatting when driving, if these things have to be addressed it is handsfree and safer I suppose.

Donna, none of my photos could be recovered on my MacBook Air! I collected it today and the really nice technician set up my new Seagate Backup which I'll be using from now on! Learned my lesson that day with the granddaughter - she knows an awful lot about computers but between us we really messed up fooling about with the 'trash can'.

Hope this is a great week for you and Mr. Jim.
    Hugs - Mary

  8. Well---I know who to come to when we get our iPhone in April/May. We both have iMacs, George has an iPad, we both have iPods, and I have a new Macbook Pro.... Got it this week to replace my old Macbook which had very very little memory in it... I love the new one!!!! George got a new iPad --with all of the bells and whistles to replace his old one... SO---next on our list (when the Verizon contract runs out this spring) is to get an iPhone.... I'm sure I'll have TONS of questions....

    Congrats on your new phone.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. I love my iPhone. There is so many great apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest gas around, Favado for sale prices on groceries and Websters Dictionary to learn how to spell words and pronounce them. They're all free so try them out!I could go on and on!! The only thing I don't care for is texting because of my fat fingers!! Enjoy!!

  13. I have an Iphone and like having it available for photos when I don't have my camera with me. It doesn't do low light very well, I've found. I'm certain there are lots of tricks that I don't know about my phone, but I learn on a "need to know" basis.
