Daffodils may start blooming in our flowerbeds this week, so I better get a move-on to share a few more wintery photos!
The remote town of Churchill, nestled along the famed Hudson Bay in Canada, has an active Polar Bear Alert Program. During our two trips up there, we were schooled by our tourist guides on how to stay alert. Polar bears are known to wander around in town, so we always looked out the windows before venturing outside! Warning signs are posted in areas where the bears are known to frequent. Nuisance bears are trapped, kept at a holding facility (aka, polar bear jail), and later flown out for relocation.
And forget about crossing signs for pedestrians, school children, deer, etc. In Churchill, there are polar bear crossing signs!
Yeah, it's best to give these animals the right-of-way.
giving them a wide 'bearth', per se. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a strange concept to even consider. I can't fathom having to check around for polar bears, but then, we're keeping an eye out for skunks these days...mating season. Signs make such great photo subjects.
ReplyDeleteNo worries about polar bears here, just the occasional raccoon or deer. Love these signs. Hmmm, that reminds me to check out the next photo challenge - there's one about text coming up!
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see a polar bear up close - with a heavy pane of plate glass between him and me. Beautiful creatures!
ReplyDeleteSTOP! with the daffodils coming out. I feel like any minute now I could see a polar bear in my yard, it so cold and snowy here. I'm under a blanket most days just to stay defrosted. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they haven't found their way down into the Great Lakes considering the snow and temps. I always love your Churchill shots.
ReplyDeleteDaffodils? I don't think we'll be seeing any here for a while yet. We had more flurries again today.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely give those bears the right of way....lol
That would be a scary sight! We've been hiking a lot lately and I hope I don't see anything scary! lol I like birds and wildflowers! haha!
ReplyDeleteI would have no problem giving the Polar Bears the right of way!
ReplyDeleteYes, no playing about with these 'teddies' they are extremely dangerous!

How funny, yet scary. I remember when we were kids in Washington state; my brother yelled to our mom: "I HEAR a white bear". LOL
ReplyDeleteI can run fast when needed...Hahahaaa

Not to be messed with, for sure! I love seeing bits and pieces of Alaska.

Mr. Sweet would LOVE looking for a polar bear....hahhhaaa....
ReplyDeletethought you were going to talk about taking a dip...when Dave and I were in Point Barrow, Alaska, I took a partial dip...lacked the courage and bathing suit to take a full dip.
ReplyDeletehmmm..interesting...I think you've just put me off visiting there...
ReplyDeletebut wait, I seriously doubt I would have gotten there anyway.
