Photo of the Week - View from Jackson Point Overlook

Signal Mountain, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

During the spring photo tour of the Tetons, I was able to visit many places for the first time. The guide certainly knew various nooks and crannies of the park that get overlooked by traditional visitors.

One of the opportunities for a photo shoot was at the very peak of Signal Mountain. After a short road trip up the mountain, there is a small overlook at the top. The area can be a little bit crowded when several photographers nestle in with their tripods. Extra time and patience are required to get various compositional setups. I did a lot of bracketing here because of a dark foreground and light background.

For this particular image, I combined a set of five different exposures to create an HDR (high dynamic range) image. The purpose of creating an HDR image is to merge the light and dark areas, making the best of all of the exposures. I used a new program, called Aurora HDR Pro. It will take a while for me to understand the program’s full capabilities, but that is the fun of it all. With digital photography, I am always learning new things!

  2. Amazing Donna!
I would love to see your image before before playing with the exposures!
The colour of the mountains, river and sky in the background is perfect.
The trees seem to be 3D dimension - they are so real!
    Thinking of you.

  4. Beautiful, Donna! I have been really slack in learning more than the basics about my camera. I do need to learn more so I can get some wonderful photos of our new grand-daughter! :)
I took photos the day she was born, but unfortunately, 40 of the photos won't transfer from my card to my computer... I can see most of them on my camera, but get an error message when trying to transfer. Any ideas?

  8. I'm late getting here this week, but I always do! Gorgeous image - I don't even understand half of what you're talking about. The idea of combining images is Greek to me, but you are doing well because this is beautiful.
