Sale of the Cottage (Maybe)

Grey Havens cottage in the spring
Our leisure time may be scarce this fall! In the hopes of downsizing and simplifying for our senior years, we’ve had our lovely Grey Havens cottage and acreage up for sale. It now looks like it might be sold. We have accepted a contingency contract through the end of September, so that the new folks can get a head start on selling their house.

While we wait for the outcome, we are renewing our efforts to reduce clutter and whittle through all our household items. We plan to relocate to a rental house or apartment temporarily while we have a villa home built for us just a few miles away. So we will be moving twice and living a bit of a vagabond life for a while, LOL.

For my new blog readers, you might want to refer back to the Introduction to Grey Havens Cottage, which I provided in February. It will be with some sadness that we say goodbye to this lovely dream home of ours. But we joyfully look forward to when we are able to settle into a new home.

All your prayers and good wishes are appreciated! I’ll keep everyone posted on the developments!

  3. Thank you, Kim and Sally! We are cautiously optimistic right now. At the end of September, I have completed a full year of retirement. So I have been fortunate enough to thoroughly experience the beauty of all four seasons here. But we are ready to move on and finalize our plans for the next chapter of our lives.

  15. Thank you, Brenda! This is a big step for us, but a necessary one. It is beautiful, indeed. But it is a lot of work for us, and our bodies are not getting any younger, LOL. I will miss my many flowers.

  16. I'd hate to move twice!! We moved here about 12 years ago and I hate to think of a move!!

But best of luck on the sale...hope all goes to your advantage.

  17. Thanks, Karen! I don't think there is any way to avoid moving twice, since we want to build a custom place and this is a new development. We'll leave most things boxed up and live with just the bare essentials. That will minimize unpacking.

  18. Your home is lovely and I know how much it hurts to leave. Get your pictures now and write your memories. Now you will be getting ready to create new ones! You are traveling people now... living the gypsie life... how fun is that?

  19. Thank you, Cindra! I've been taking pictures like crazy ever since I retired last October. Guess that is why the house has taken this long to sell, huh? We'll be taking a ton when we build. We took a lot while this home was being built, but that was back in the day of negative film, LOL.

Yep, we can hear that traveling music in the background now!

  28. Donna, I just read your Into. to Grey Havens Cottage (Grey Havens was one of my original blog name ideas... but decided Grey Gardens was more suited to my personality).

What a lovely home! You are going to make someone's dream come true when your sale is final. I know you will carry many precious memories with you into your new home!

    Blessings!

  29. LOL, I originally wanted to name my blog Grey Havens, but the blog address was take. I like what I ultimately picked, though, because it provides slices of my homestead life and also my travels.

Thank you for your kind words! We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that this sale goes through. We are anxious to get on with the next chapter of our lives.
