February's Random Thoughts

We bought a couple of pots of tulips and hyacinths about a week ago. It has been a treat to have splashes of floral color on our kitchen table.

The flowers have given me a little indoor practice with the macro lens, reflectors, and digital editing. And when I get practice, you get to see a pretty picture!

It’s a rainy day, but I can’t complain. It could be snow!

The gas bill just came in yesterday. It was pleasantly low. It’s probably the lowest that I can ever remember for this time of year.

Against my better judgment, I started Pinterest a week ago. I really don’t have to time do it justice right now, but I thought it would be a good idea to at least get it set up. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! On the plus side, I can get rid of a lot of stray bookmarks on Safari. On the downside, I now have an incurable case of creation fever. I’m starting to make a list of little treasures and messes I want to try to make after the working stint is over.

I hope that you have turned off the word verification setting on your blog. The latest Blogger changes have made this step difficult and frustrating to complete.  The setting is totally unnecessary because the spam filter is working well and there is also an optional comment approval setting. Fair Warning: If you maintain word verification on your blog, I will not leave comments. Sorry!

An antique cut-glass bowl on the entryway table has been looking a little lonely since Christmas time. So I painted and distressed a dozen paper mache eggs yesterday. They are all a lovely buttermilk color, toned down with a dark glaze. I got a creativity fix and the bowl is now filled. Two birds and one stone, so to speak.

Our first daffodil should bloom outside this week. It looked like it wanted to open up last week, but a brief cold snap help change it’s mind. I am checking it daily, ensuring that I don’t miss it. Oh, how I love daffies!

DH found some leeks on sale at the grocery store. So he made a pot of potato and leek soup for lunch. The recipe is low calorie and delicious! I was too hungry to stop and do a photo shoot, so you’ll just have to settle for a mental picture us chowing down a couple of gorgeous bowls of tasty goodness.

Thanks to the unseasonably warm weather for the past month or so, DH and I have been walking laps around the road that goes through the villa section. It’s an oval that is reasonably flat and the traffic is nil. In addition to fresh air and a little exercise, we get a chance to regularly check out the progress of two new villas under construction. One is a custom home and the other will be featured in the next local parade of homes.

I have tomorrow off from work because it’s a holiday. Hooray! I don’t get paid, but hooray anyhow! Sunshine needs to make an appearance so that I can capture some images for the next photo challenge. The theme is “these are a few of my favorite things.” Gosh, it’s going to be hard to decide my subjects because I many cherished treasures. Won’t you consider joining in on the challenge fun? The link is on my sidebar.

  2. The word verification is really difficult isn't it? Glad to see you have an added day to your weekend, me too. I've really done very little today, I don't know why I'm so beat, but I am. Tomorrow is another day... my only goal today is to make supper.

  3. I saw some tulips in the store the other day and almost bought some.
I hear ya on the word verification. I think almost everyone is in agreement on that one.
I use Pinterest and it's so much easier to keep track of things since I always lost things when I was just bookmarking.

  4. Yes to eliminating Word Verification. I about lost my mind trying to comment on friend's blogs. Then I realized they were having to do the same on mine. It's gone!

I'm now stalking you on Pinterest! It's so much fun, but I feel I haven't organized mine very well yet.

Trying the photo challenge this time. In fact, was just thinking about which "favorites" I'm going to shoot.

    Enjoy your holiday tomorrow!

  5. I know what you mean about Pinterest. The food coloring in water pics were inspired by something I found on Pinterest. I don't spend that much time on there either. Flickr takes up most of my internet time.

  6. The tulip is gorgeous! Our electric bill was much lower this month as well and the daffies are blooming nicely now. I think my blog is word verification free- please let me know if it's not. I have sooo many favorites, I don't know how I'll ever get a blog post finished for the photo challenge😉
Have a great day off tomorrow!

  7. Yes--thanks for spreading the word about the Word Verification... I'm telling people individually when I run across them..

We had about 2 inches of snow here... SO pretty --one of those wet, clingy kind which I love. Took a bunch of pictures...

I refuse to join Pinterest.. I know it's good --but now that I'm involved with Facebook and Blogger, there's just no more time in my life...

We had two crocuses to bloom this weekend...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. The eggs you made sound very neat! I am ready to put more Spring things out but I need to put away some of my decor first! I have trouble finding places to keep things that I don't want out all the time! I am on page 100 of my book! It is very exciting...different reading for me and I'm glad! I was in a rut! Book hugs, Diane! (heehee) ♥♥♥

  10. Oh girl, once you catch Pinterest fever it's hard to stop.
That soup sounds like something we would like and I got the visual, sort of. I put you in a light blue shirt and a pair of denim capris. LOL! I'm probably way off base.
Oh I can see I'm slap happy this morning so I better go.
Big Hugs to you my sweet friend.

  13. Oh very pretty... Care to explain it or is that asking too much?

Here here on the Captcha stuff. It does a good thing, but using it in Blogdom is way too much of a good thing.

  14. I'm glad you are on Pinterest! It's a great place to store favorite sites and ideas for things to make and do! Hope you post a pic of your eggs that you made. We have a rainy day today. I am loving how we are skating through the winter. Not quite warm enought to walk outside much but we're getting there! Have a wonderful week!

  15. Pinterest just may be an addiction I don't need, but I understand the creative spark it ignites! Oh my.

You sound well and happy you had the day off. Even with the warmer Winter, I can't wait until Spring!

    The photo is gorgeous...
