Photo Challenge: Temptations

It’s time for another Brenda Photo Challenge!  The current subject is “temptations.”  After checking out my photos, please click on the above link to see contributions of the other participants.

For southern residents like us, there are few things in life that compare to a glass of fine Kentucky bourbon!  Some folks would consider bourbon a temptation.  We consider it an occasional drink that is relished while rocking on the porch and recalling the day’s accomplishments!

We visited a few distilleries while we were touring through Tennessee’s northern neighbor recently.  One of the places we stopped at was the lovely Jim Beam distillery in the little town Clermont (about 20 miles south of Louisville).  We visited here a couple of years ago, when we diligently completed the entire Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  But we couldn’t take any photos then because there was a thundershower.  We had an overcast day this time, so our latest visit was much more pleasant.

One of the features at the site is the statue of Booker Noe and his faithful dog, Dot.  Booker was the grandson of Jim Beam and a master distiller for more than 40 years.  He was a gregarious fellow and held many parties at his home in nearby Bardstown.  He also was known to frequently sit out on his front porch with Dot and enjoy a glass of bourbon while watching the world go by.  The camera settings were f/5.0, 1/800 second, and ISO 400.

This close-up image was taken at f/5.6, 1/250 second, and ISO 400.

There were some lovely displays to demonstrate how bourbon was created “back in the day.”  Of course, a copper still is essential!  The camera settings were f/5.0, 1/30 second, and ISO 400.

And my captured still life scenes begged to be transformed into painterly versions, so I obliged.  This vignette shows measuring and data recording for completing the bourbon recipes.  The image was taken at f/5.3, 1/40 second, and ISO 400.

A nearby worktable contained a handsome assortment of containers and an oil lamp.  The camera settings were f/5.3, 1/80 second, and ISO 400.

  4. Wonderful photographs. My very favorite is the first one showing Booker Noe in front of that beautiful red barn. He looks like a happy fellow.

I notice that you have a lot of photos taken on the ISO 400 setting. I must check to see what my ISO is set on (not that my camera is anywhere in the same league as yours).
