A Rainy Day - Boutiliers Cove, Nova Scotia

The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ~

We’re tucked in here at Grey Havens cottage today, protected from some gentle rain showers. The damp weather and dappled skies remind me of a rainy day that we enjoyed in Nova Scotia almost a year ago. We flew in a day early for our scheduled tour so that we could rent a car and do some self-exploration. The weather was determined to not cooperate with our photography plans. The rain was unrelenting.

But when there is a will, there is a way. As seasoned travelers, we know that weather conditions are potluck. Sometimes the roll of the dice doesn’t go our way, so we adapt. Though we grumbled a bit under our collective breaths, we set out on a excursion along the jagged southern coastline.

One of our rewards of the day was Boutiliers Cove, a tiny little fishing community about 30 miles outside of Halifax, as the crow flies. This diminutive inlet provided us with enough color and architectural interest to risk melting in the light drizzle. It instantly reminded us of enchanting scenes along coastal Maine.

Vibrant hues of the boats were spotlighted, bringing instant cheer to the dampness.

Except for the faint whisper of the raindrops, quiet echoed throughout the cove.

Can you ever recall seeing such a charming boathouse?

As we were photographing the rural scenery, a couple of residents walked their dog along the cove road and pleasantly greeted us. Their slightly soggy Bouvier des Flandres warmly greeted us too!

We all agreed that the weather was perfect.
