House Construction Across the Street (Update #2)

Gosh, it’s been over a month and a half since I have provided a status report on the construction project across from our cottage! A lot has happened in the meantime.

As soon as the roofing phase was over, the crews installing the Hardie board and brick were playing leapfrog with each other. They also had to dodge June’s unseasonably wet weather. The lot was totally trashed and the dumpster was overflowing after these tasks were completed.

However, the exterior was completely transformed once they got done! Site cleanup was necessary, of course. Then the painting crew took over the job site. I blurred out the name of the company on their van because I don’t want to give them free advertising. They did some lousy work on our job site, resulting in us forking out extra money to refinish our exterior wood trim and porch columns after only two short years. Pbbttt to them!

By the end of June, it really started to look better! The builder selected a brownish mustard for the main color. I wouldn’t have picked it out, but he didn’t ask my opinion, LOL. More gravel was delivered and added to the garage area and driveway. Insulation was also delivered (see stacks in garage) and installed. Additional site cleanup and earthmoving was completed too.

The sheetrock delivery provided us some entertainment. It came on two flatbed trailers.

Using a remote-controlled hydraulic arm, the panels were off-loaded into the first floor …

… and the second floor!

The past few weeks have been very busy. Sheetrock was installed and the mudding/sanding done. Concrete was poured for the front and back porches and in the garage. Then the painters came back to apply primer paint to the interior. Finish was applied to the decorative corbels in the eaves and bead-board for the porch ceilings. More underground drains were installed in the yard. Lumber for the front porch was also delivered. And a chimney extension is now visible.

Whew! That house is starting to shape up, isn’t it? It's taken three months to get to this point. With the kickoff of the parade of homes and open house in late September, it will be a race to the finish line!

  1. I love the yellow color in contrast to the other houses. When finished it should be a lovely home.

  3. I love yellow, but I'm with you on that color. It does complement the house next door and will work out in the end when landscaping is done and there are other things to look at. It's a lovely home. It was interesting to see the Sheetrock going in that way...must show John!

  7. I know you will be be so glad when the house is completed and SOLD--- SO--that life can get back to 'normal' --whatever that is... ha ha... We have a big moving van next door to us today.. Our neighbors are moving closer to some of their kids (since neither are well)... I hate to see them go since they are nice, quiet people. HOPE we get some quiet neighbors with no barking dogs.... ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  9. It's a bit too butterscotch for me too. Our house is a very pale yellow, which I like, with white trim and olive shutters, however although only painted 2 years ago, it's already looking a bit grubby in places after all the recent heavy rains where the dirt got tossed around, boohoo! Will need the power washer guy perhaps.
Hope you eventually get nice neighbors.............and no big barking canines!

    Hugs - Mary

  10. Interesting colour choice, but not mine either. Looking close to finishing, except for the inside.

  11. That's going to be a beautiful house but I don't care for the colour of the siding either. It will be interesting to see the landscaping and hopefully the inside when the tour happens. Thanks for the update. Interesting post.
