House Construction Across the Street - It's Done!

The view from the front of our cottage has changed for the better! The house construction has been completed. I no longer look out of my home office and see a dumpster and porta-potty. Now, I see a lovely home that awaits new neighbors.

The last time I gave you an update was in early July. This is what it looked like toward the end of that month.

We had a running joke about the painting crew. The interior painters were milking the project for all it was worth. We envisioned that they would still be there when the open house started, vegetating on the living room furniture and playing with their smart phones. They stayed over five weeks.

Once they were merrily finished, then the rest of the construction crew kicked it up into high gear to make up for lost time. While cabinets, tile, and fixture installations happened inside, exterior work was completed. Garage doors were hung, porch columns were put in place, and landscaping was installed. It was a beehive of activity, and we were frequently dodging vehicles parked in back of our driveway. Even furniture was brought in to decorate it for the public tours!

Our local parade of homes started on October 4th, and the house was ready! This is the same floor plan as our cottage, except that we have a walk-in storage room above the great room instead of a vaulted ceiling. Our floor plan is also a mirror image. The decorating is less traditional than ours. There are some pretty features in this house, but we like ours better! Click HERE if you want to see some of the detailed finish work.

It’s quite a change from the view we had six months ago, isn’t it? There have been really good turnouts for the past two weekends, and the home show will run one more weekend. There were two very long, private showings today, which indicate some serious interest. Now we just hope we get some good neighbors to move in!
