Photo of the Week - Steep Steps Up to Owls Head Light

Owls Head, Maine

Owls Head Light helps boats navigate the entrance to Rockland harbor. It was built in 1825, rebuilt in 1952, and automated in 1989. The lighthouse is only 30 feet tall, but seems more imposing because it sits at the very top of a rocky cliff. This photo shows a few of the steps up to the structure. It took me a little while, but I eventually climbed to the top!  Whew!

  5. You made it up there?! I took one look at those stairs and decided against it a few years ago. Looks as if it was a beautiful day that day. Today would have been a great day to be there as well.

  10. What a climb! I'm sure it's worth it when you get to the top. I'm having a knee issue and I would have to take it pretty slow, too. Your photo is wonderful! Such great perspective.
