Hanging Up My Traveling Hat

antique straw hat, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
Harrodsburg, Kentucky

I’m hanging up my hat for now – my traveling hat, that is. We’re back from another jaunt, this time from middle Kentucky. We stayed and dined at the historic Beaumont Inn during the Thanksgiving holiday. We also visited the nearby Shaker village for some photography practice and shopped for a few folk art crafts in Berea. We had a lovely and relaxing visit. I hope that you had an enjoyable holiday too.

Now we’re ready to settle in for the Christmas season and the winter ahead! We quickly unpacked yesterday, and today we started to get caught up with housecleaning and laundry chores. I tossed the pumpkins that decorated the front porch into the woods for wild critter food. The fall swag over the front door and the autumn garden flag have been replaced with Christmas versions. We’ll cart down boxes from our walk-in attic storage tomorrow and start the decorating in earnest. We will probably opt to keep it simple and put out small trees instead of large ones. A few Santas will be displayed, and lights will go in all of the front cottage windows.

In keeping with new Christmas spirit, I went ahead and changed my blog banner and background earlier today. It’s going to be a busy week. Let the festivities begin!

  2. Well you old Homebody you! All winter? You're staying home all winter? I don't know whether I believe that...wanderlust is gonna bite you again probably sooner rather than later.

Take it easy on the decorating. A little a day until it looks cooked. I'm thinking one teddy bear looks fine to me right now.

Looking forward to seeing your "practice" at Shaker Village.

  3. Ah, your getaway sounds wonderful, and I LOVE your new look here!

I think it's going to be a couple of small trees here, and Hunter has already wanted to start decorating. I'm going to let her do whatever she wants. :)
