One Year Later

A couple of weeks ago, we planted some daylilies in our new flowerbed next to the porch. Once again, we get to admire and enjoy beautiful blooms like this one. Oh my, this purple and creamy yellow one is downright delicious.

It’s hard to believe, but today is my bionic knee’s one-year anniversary! Last summer was a rough one, and the experience will probably have to be replayed one more time before this cantankerous body of mine kicks the proverbial bucket. My fingers are crossed that this titanium knee replacement will last me at least 15-20 years. Next time, I know that I will insist on more and stronger drugs, LOL.

I’m walking really well with it these days. Walking on uneven ground is not giving me the fits that it used to, and this has been a significant improvement in the last six months. Going up and down stairs is still somewhat of a challenge, and I usually have to steady myself by using a railing. The numbness and nerve pain still lingers. One tendon still has tenderness, and I may need another cortisone shot in it this summer.

All in all, my knee is getting me where I want to go. I’ll be concentrating on further strengthening exercises before we take our photographic wilderness trips later on this year. Onward!

  1. Gorgeous day lily!!!! So glad you're able to walk better. :)

  2. What a beautiful flower. Glad to hear your knee is doing well.

  3. So....You would do it all over again!
I am coming up on my 6 months, and I am having a bit more trouble than you. But...I think you were in the same place 6 months ago, so there is still hope for more improvement! I will never be able to kneel on that right knee, so the Dr. says. And he is right so far! Gardening is a real pain, therefore not much is getting done. If you close one eye and squint with the other, you can't even see the weeds!!!
And stairs are still difficult. I think I will always need a railing! But, I would do it again. Don't think I could have said that 3 months ago! And i think I will put off having the left one done till it is no longer able to get me around! Maybe January 2012???

  4. Hey, Farmgirl Cyn! The answer is no, I wouldn't do it all over again if I had a choice. But I had no choice. Or at least my choice was going to be a wheelchair. And there is no kneeling EVER with these artificial knees. I have to bend over to do everything. Squatting is extremely painful and avoided at all costs. I wish I could close my eyes and have a normal healthy knee instead. And wish away all the pain I have had to endure this past year and for several decades. But I accept what I have and go on!

You WILL get better between 6-12 months. But any claims that folks had given me (all second-hand, of course!) of it being a miracle cure are completely bogus in my book. It's not the same as a real knee.

  5. Oh if I know you, your knees won't stop you one bit on going on your adventures. You know I look forward to your adventures! LOL!
    And that flower is GORGEOUS!

  6. Time really does zip on by, especially for those of us who could not feel your pain. I don't imagine that it went by all that fast for you. Thank you for the update. Sometimes I've wanted to ask, but didn't want to be nosy, even though I am nosy...very. It's really why I blog. :D Always ask for good drugs no matter what.

The colors on your lily are amazing!

  7. I'm so glad you are better and appreciating your bionic knee, wouldn't it be nice if you could run like that bionic lady did. I don't know if I'd want to run, but walking is o.k. I'm blessed with good knees so far, but my feet are another story. Although I think it's the weight that is doing it. I'm working on that as well. Love the day lily.

  8. More and stronger drugs! There you go. LOLOL ... that flower's real purty.

  9. Well, happy birthday or anniversary or whatever to your knee! I'm glad it doing as good as it is. God really does see us through the valleys. And I absolutely love the lily!!!

  10. What a wonderful anniversary! I didn't know you, a year ago. But I'm very, very happy to read this one year report now.

Onward with doing what you are supposed to do, with/for your knee!!!

  11. Gorgeous lily and happy anniversary! I's sure it was worth all of the pain and work.

  12. How pretty!!!

I'm so glad your knee is healing more and more each day!

  13. Good to hear your updates....It is hard for me to believe it was one year ago....Bet not for you tho!

  14. What a Beautiful lily! Love the colors!
Happy "My knee feels better" Day!!
See there? Where did the time GO??
    Happy night sweetie!
